Mystic Magpies

This handmade game generates a four word fortune for you based on the superstitious magpie poem:

"One for sorrow
Two for joy
Three for a girl
Four for a boy
Five for silver
Six for gold
Seven for a secret,
never to be told
Eight for a wish
Nine for a kiss
Ten a surprise
you should not miss
Eleven for health
Twelve for wealth
Thirteen beware,
it’s the devil himself"

The box contains 13 card tokens, all with a magpie on one side. On the other side 6 are dark moons and 7 are bright moons.

One at a time the player flips or spins the tokens.
When all 13 tokens have landed the player adds up the number of magpies facing left, magpies facing right, dark moons and bright moons.
These numbers are then looked at on the chart and a four word reading is given relating to the past the present (dark) present (bright) and future.
The player can choose to throw the tokens again and add these numbers to the first throw, at the risk of getting unlucky number 13.

This has been designed as an ornamental piece and conversation starter, ideal for a cabinet of curiosities.
The box and tokens are all hand printed from lino blocks and therefore each set will be unique.

13 circular magpie tokens (3.2cm wide) cut from 700gsm card, hand stamped and lightly varnished.
